Memory is the biggest factor in learning multiplication tables, and some children really struggle with this aspect. One established memory aid is the ‘picture clue.’ Here groups of pictures are linked to sum and answer. (Fruit, vegetables, farm animals, sea creatures, modes of transport and furniture.)
Our example shows a ‘tables ruler’ with sums on one side and answers on the reverse. Thus a lemon will appear on ‘7 x 6’ side and also on the ‘42’ side.
EACH CHILD DRAWS A DIFFERENT PICTURE TO DEMONSTRATE A DIFFERENT ANSWER.
E.G. 3X7 = 21 TOASTER THE CHILD DRAWS THREE SHELVES IN CURRY'S WITH 7 TOASTERS ON EACH AND WRITES THE SUM UNDERNEATH. THIS PICTURE IS DISPLAYED ON THE WALL WITH OTHER 7 X EXAMPLES.
7X7 = CHAIR (EXAM ROOM 7 CHAIRS UP AND 7 ACROSS. BY THE TIME THEY HAVE DRAWN THE 49TH CHAIR - THEY WILL REMEMBER.
BLOCKS OF TOILETS AND GROUPS/ SETS / COLLECTIONS OF ALL PICUTRES TO EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT OF MULTIPLICATION.
Set also includes a ‘tables pyramid’ which displays answers and picture clues and multiplication grids from 2 to 10.
