 Fixing Instructions

Positioning

Position picture fixtures at child height. Use parents and helpers to work with children and develop teaching points. Integrate working with Playground Pictures into your whole school policy approach in your outdoor ‘teaching, learning and assessment’ zones.

Permanent Wall Fixtures

Your Playground Pictures are designed to be ‘permanently’ fixed to walls and fences.

They can be taken in and out or temporarily secured with Velcro, but please remember that IF YOU CAN MOVE THEM – CHILDREN CAN MOVE THEM!!!!

Velcro works well as a temporary basis, but strong winds can catch and remove them.

Health and Safety

AT NO TIME, CAN PICTURES BE PLACED ON FLOORS. Children can slip on the surfaces and the 3mm edge can trip children up.

Fixing  -  They can be nailed, screwed or glued to walls and fences.

SURFACES MUST BE FLAT.

BEWARE OF LITTLE FINGERS BEING ABLE TO GET BEHIND THE PICTURE FIXTURES. AND TWEEK, PULL OR HANG FROM THEM!

Glued – Fast and none messy. Use a tube dispenser and SOLVENT FREE GRAB ADHESIVE SUCH as the recommended NAIL and SEAL.  See illustration. AFFIX IN DRY CONDITIONS

Screw – Pre-drill holes in the pictures. (not too near to the edge) Use counter sunk brass screws.

Nail  - Fast but not pretty!    Make sure that all nail heads are smooth with no sharp edges. Although not pretty. (After a while one tends not to notice the nails.)

Wooden Picket Fencing Try to get edges starting and finishing on the fence so that the picture does not overlap. Uneven fences Draw around the picture and only put glue on the raised areas. Chain Link Fences and Hedges Drill holes and use plastic pull ties.

Notes

If they are to be screwed to solid wood, allow for movement - shrinkage and expansion of the wood, and attach less tightly.

A few surfaces  e.g. on terrapin/temporary classrooms may be sprayed with anti vandal protective spray and this will reject glue.

UVH fading. The ultra violet rays cannot be avoided and some fading will occur over the years.
